UAD SUPPORTS FEBRUARY 6 POPULAR NATIONWIDE PROTESTS

We in the United Action for Democracy (UAD) uses this opportunity to endorse the popular mass action as it is being planned by musicians led by TuFace Idibia and some other musicians for Monday February 6th in major cities of the country. The take-off points are:
“ LAGOS - New Afrikan Shrine at Agidingbi, Ikeja. Will march all the way to Gani Fawehinmi Park, Ojota.
ABUJA - To converge at Unity Fountain, Abuja.
PORT HARCOURT - To converge at Isaac Boro Park, Port Harcourt.
KANO - Rumfa Primary School, Enugu Road, Sabon Gari, Kano.”

We also support and solidarize with the TASUED students protests against monstrous fee hike on the same day under the aegis of SAVE TASUED AND FUND EDUCATION COALITION (STAFEC) at Abeokuta.
We believe that the musicians and other artistes are part and parcel of society, and they have a right to mobilise society against such ills and hardship as we witness today in the country. We stand with any and every struggle of the masses against the oppressors as they are all part of the fight to build another world on the ashes of this barbaric old.
Education is a major soul of any society, and the battle for its soul in Nigeria must be led by those concerned. The TASUED students, just like in LAUTECH are fighting to save the future of the entire masses!

But we propose that the musicians should sort for conscious collaboration with the radical civil society in order to have a well-planned, guided, perceptive, and result-seeking mass action. This is where UAD is key as we are already leading series of action against AUSTERITY and HARDSHIP.

Nigerians indeed are tired of the system that continues to make us wallow in massive want and war. We are gnashing our teeth over such anti-people policies like DEREGULATION that has made oil to be sold locally as such exorbitant price like #145, while kerosene and gas are so costly that cooking has turned to luxury!

The neo-liberal DEVALUATION of the Naira has also killed our economy, allowing it to be falling freely in the sole hands of the capitalist “market forces.” And then, the government, in the name of a RECESSION-FROM-THE-TOP has continuously implemented AUSTERITY measures thereby putting the burden of the fall of the economy on the already thin necks of the masses.

We posit that pro-rich elements like Ayo Fayose of Ekiti should steer clear of the peoples' action as there is no fundamental difference between politicians of APC and PDP or any other anti-poor party. We the working people know our friends and we identify their solidarity at all times. Once beaten, forever shy!

We in UAD call on the FEBRUARY 6 MOVEMENT to engage civil society for the success of the mass action, and its continuation as a one-off mass action cannot force this wicked ruling class to change their anti-people actions.

We call on all progress-seeking groups and individuals to be part of the FEBRUARY 5 Action. We ask that communities should mobilise and take to the streets as every onlooker is either a coward or a traitor!

SIGNED

GABRIEL OJUMAH,                        KUNLE WIZEMAN AJAYI,
CONVENER  .                                    GENERAL SECRETARY.

Former Senate Deputy Leader, Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi has called on security Agencies to stop linking Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Members and any other opposition with Boko Haram. Senator Abdul, Made this called during donations of two cars (ford Gallazy) to PDP Bauchi state chapter at the Party Secretariat Monday, in Bauchi, saying that the issue of damaging the image of any party is a very serious and dangerous one where the party in government sees anybody who doesn’t agree with them as the Boko Haram member that are out to destroy the state, “What this means is that, if you do not agree with me, or if you are not in the APC you don’t love the state.” “Our party members were locked up and linked with Boko Haram, this is worrisome, it was discovered that after investigation by the police those that perpetrated the attacked on convoy are the members in the same party with the ruling governor and the then Commissioner police also testified that,” he said. ...
